Conversation between Violet and her Dad...
Violet - "Is that bacon in your burger?"
Gregg - "It sure is."
Violet - "That's like Manna from heaven, only in a burger!"
Gregg - after he takes another bite of his bacon cheese burger, Gregg replies, "It sure is!"
Oh, how I love those two! It is never a dull moment in our home.

Tonight's Conversations - Little Monsters
While getting Violet settled into bed tonight, she asked me a series of questions. I have several teacher friends and family who would appreciate her response...
Violet - Mommy, what did you want to be when you grew up?I busted out laughing with that response. I'm not sure where she picked that up from since we homeschool but I'm sure several of my friends and family might agree with Violet's assessment after having a rough day with their students.
Me - Well, I wanted to be a lot of things.
Violet - Like what?
Me - I wanted to be a veterinarian, a lawyer, a teacher, just to name a few.
Violet - Why would you want to be a teacher? You would be surrounded by little monsters all day.

Blame It On the Toe
I think I have now heard the funniest excuse ever. Violet's door just slammed and as I went to check on what happened, and if she was okay, she came running out of her room. The rush of words that came from her mouth still have me laughing.
"Mommy, I promise I didn't mean to slam the door! My toe tripped me!"I think that should qualify as the best and funniest excuse of all time!

Stitched Together
While enjoying some quiet time with my precious little girl, Violet and I were holding hands. She opened my hand, traced along the lines, and asked, "Why do we have these lines on our hands?" I've never thought about that and told her that I didn't know why. She then looked up at me, and with the greatest conviction of heart she said, "I think that's where God stitched us together after He made us."
I never will never cease to be amazed by this child God blessed me with for a daughter.

Conversations
This particular conversation was between me and a very handsome, and insanely sweet, seven year old boy in my home school group. We had the opportunity to have a time of fellowship tonight after school with a few other families when this young man came up to me. Here is a snippet of our conversation...
Oh, be still my beating heart!!! He is going to make some young lady very happy someday!!!
Mr. A. - Mrs. Wiltshire?
Me - Yes sir, what can I do for you?
Mr. A. - I just want to say, I think you are beautiful. And I love your curly hair.
Oh, be still my beating heart!!! He is going to make some young lady very happy someday!!!

Bedtime Battles & Conversations
We had a huge battle of the wills a few nights ago. After a weekend full of activities and late nights, and not much one-on-one time with her Daddy, Violet went into a full fledged melt-down. Trust me when I say that it was not a pretty sight. We gave Violet her typical warnings of what she should expect if she continued to misbehave. Finally, her Dad said, "Okay, that was the last warning." Violet's response was to cry even harder and to push things even further.
I was trying to get ready for bed when Violet busted in the bathroom and started yelling at me at the top of her lungs. "I DON'T WANT TO GO TO BED!!!!" I guess she didn't think I understand the depth of just how much she wanted to stay up for the night. I turned to Violet, with my mouth filled with my toothbrush and toothpaste, and told her that in no uncertain terms did she want me to get involved in this little drama of hers. Apparently though, she didn't believe me.
Here's a part of our family's conversation that night...
Yes folks, our daughter has her Daddy wrapped around her little finger.

Violet ~ I DON'T WANT TO GO TO BED!!!(at the top of her lungs)
Gregg ~ Sorry but it's way passed your bedtime and we've all got to go to bed.
Violet ~ But I'm not even tired. (again, at the top of her lungs)
Gregg ~ If you just lie down you'll realize that you really are tired. Now, this is your last warning. If you don't stop yelling, and don't get in bed, you will lose your TV for the day. (This is when Violet bursts into the bathroom and proceeds to yell at me.)
Me ~ Violet, you've heard your Daddy and you have to do what he's told you to do. You don't want me to get involved in this because the punishments get bigger.
Violet ~ What will you do? (you can easily see the wheels turning in her brain.)
Me ~ You'll not only lose your TV, but you'll also lose your video games. And it won't just be for a day either. This is the only warning I'm going to give you. Now go do what your Daddy told you and be nice about it too.(Violet stomps out of the room and starts back on her Daddy. And that was the straw that broke this camel's back.)
Me ~ Violet, you just lost your TV and video game for a day.
Violet ~ No! I didn't mean to! Just give me one more chance!!!(She turns to her Daddy and starts begging him.)
Gregg ~ You might get it back if you do what we're telling you to right now.
Violet ~ But Mommy MEANS what she says!!! I've lost my TV and games and she won't give them back!!!
Yes folks, our daughter has her Daddy wrapped around her little finger.

Overheard
While listening to Violet as she's going through her bedtime preparations...
"It's time for the Toothbrush Tango!"I don't know where she comes up with half the stuff she says but I think she's pretty stinking hilarious!

Conversations
While building a tent with chairs and blankets here is part of a conversation I had with Violet...
Me ~You know, I used to build tents like this when I was a little girl.
Violet ~ You did? Who taught you to do that?
Me ~ Your Mimi & Grandpa taught me. But I did this a lot at your Great-Great Granny's house too when I spent time with her.
Violet ~ I bet she was cool.
Me ~ Yeah, she was very cool.
Violet ~ I wish I knew you as a kid because I bet you were a lot of fun as a little girl.

Gorilla Bars?
Violet ~ Mommy, can I have a gorilla bar?
Me ~ A gorilla bar? What's that? Is it like a monkey bar?
Violet ~ No, not like that. A go-ril-la bar! (Here she talks to me real s-l-o-w, like that'll make me understand what she's saying.) The ones you eat!
Me ~ You mean a granola bar?
Violet ~ Yeah, a gorilla bar with peanut butter on it!
And that's where I broke out into the worst case of giggles ever! It's never a dull moment here.

Conversation

After making Violet lunch and a special treat (blueberry muffins) for her snack, this is the conversation we had.
Violet ~ Thank you Mommy for making me lunch. This is the best grilled-cheese sandwich ever!
Me ~ Wow, thank you. That's high praise considering your Mimi P. makes some pretty awesome grilled-cheese sandwiches.
Violet ~ Yeah, hers are really good too. Soooo, let's not tell her I said that. Okay? (sorry Mimi P.)
Me ~ Okay, I think we can do that. (obviously, I can't!)
Violet ~ You know what else I think?
Me ~ What's that?
Violet ~ I think you're a magician in the kitchen!!!
Do I have an awesome kid or what?!!!

While On The Phone
I've had a difficult time teaching my darling daughter that when I'm on the phone, which isn't all that often, she needs to wait to talk until I'm done. Seriously, the world always seems to come to a screeching halt whenever my phone rings and Violet has a colossal emergency that must be taken care of RIGHT THEN! I just got off the phone with a friend and, being the multi-tasking mother that I am, I washed out the coffee pot while on the phone. Violet, who has never shown a desire to help wash dishes, decided that today was the time to insist on helping. So, while I'm on the phone and have my hands in hot dish water Violet sticks her hand in the sink and half way in the opening of the sink disposal!!!
You can imagine the conversation that my friend had to listen to as I abruptly started talking to Violet...
Like I'd ever actually stick my daughter's favorite doll in the disposal!
You can imagine the conversation that my friend had to listen to as I abruptly started talking to Violet...
Me ~ You do NOT EVER stick your hand in this sink and ESPECIALLY NOT in the disposal!
Violet ~ But I just wanted to heeellllppp!
(Meanwhile, I'm listening to my friend chuckle over the phone.)
Me ~ Yes, and while I appreciate that, you still do not ever do that again. Do you understand me?
Violet ~ Yes mam. But why can't I do that?
Me ~ Because it can really, Really, REALLY hurt you!
And, with that response Violet runs off to her room to play again.
Me (to my friend) ~ I'm sorry about that.
Friend ~ nothing to apologize for! That's a lesson that has to be taught immediately.
Me ~ Right.
Friend ~ If that doesn't work then you can always get one of her dolls and stick it in the disposal. I'm sure she'll get the point then. (My friend has the same sarcastic sense of humor that I have.)
Me ~ Yeah, right! I'll be paying for therapy for that one for years to come!!! (Again, sarcastic humor.)
Like I'd ever actually stick my daughter's favorite doll in the disposal!

Overheard Conversation
[photo courtesy of BRIO Ambi Toys]While Gregg worked on putting a very reluctant Violet to bed last night I overheard the following conversation...
Violet ~ Noooo Daddy! I want my camera!
Gregg ~ No Sweetheart. All you're going to do is play with it when you need to be working on going to sleep.
Violet ~ But I NEEEEED it!
Gregg ~ What you NEED to do is go to sleep. Your camera will be put up with your other toys and you can have it in the morning.
Violet ~ Don't throw it in the potty Daddy!
I don't know why Violet was so worried about her Daddy throwing her toy camera in the potty but she was. FYI, we've never thrown a toy in the potty nor have we ever threatened to do that.

In The Spirit of Valentine's Day
Something Violet said to me yesterday during some quiet time together...
"Mommy, you make my heart super happy and I love you SO much!"
Ugh, that just makes my heart melt! Seriously, it doesn't get much better than that.

You're The Best!
A conversation between me and Violet that melted my heart like butter...
Violet ~ I love you Mommy.
Me ~ I love you too sweetie. And you know what else?
Violet ~ What?
Me ~ You're the best kid ever.
Violet ~ And you're the best Mommy ever!
I don't know a mother out there whose heart wouldn't melt with those words.

Conversations
[photo straight from the camera of Violet showing off her new nightgown she got from Mimi & Pops W. for Christmas]Earlier this morning Gregg promised Violet a surprise (for what I'm not sure) and here is the conversation between the two of us...
Violet ~ Guess what Mommy! Daddy said I could have a surprise!
Me ~ A surprise? I wonder what it could be?
Violet ~ I don't know but I'm SO EXCITED!!! (She's jumping up and down as she says this.)
Me ~ I can tell.
Violet ~ Is it chocolate cake?
Me ~ I'm pretty sure it's not chocolate cake. You've had enough sweets these past few days to last you throughout the next year.
Violet ~ How about a trombone?!!
Me ~ I'm absolutely certain it's Not a trombone but that's an excellent guess.

Conversation
A phone conversation between Violet and her Mimi and Grandpa (my parents)...
Mimi P. ~ So, are you gonna make me a new painting to go on my refrigerator?
Violet ~ Yeah, but not to today.
Mimi ~ Okay, just as long as you make me one before I get there.
Grandpa gets on the phone at this point...
Grandpa ~ (In the best Santa voice he could muster) Ho Ho Ho! I heard you've been a very good girl. Are you gonna come see me and have your picture taken?
Violet ~ (erupts into a massive fit of giggles) That's not Santa! That's Grandpa!!! Silly Grandpa!!!
We have an incredibly smart and perceptive little girl.

Conversation
While working on a few Christmas crafts with Violet she and I had the following conversation...
Violet ~ Mommy, can I make one for Patches? (My parent's sweet calico cat)
Me ~ Sure, we can do that. Do you want to make one for P.B. and Ebony too? (Their other two cats)
Violet ~ No, they're naughty.

Conversation
We called my parents last night and here is a tidbit of the conversation between Violet and her Grandpa...
Laughter was all I could hear on either end of the phone after this conversation. Guess we're going to have a major sugar rush after our Thanksgiving meal because Grandpa isn't capable of telling his granddaughter no.
Grandpa ~ Are you gonna come see me for Thanksgiving?
Violet ~ Yes sir.
Grandpa ~ You are? Well, what kind of pies do you want me to make for you?
Violet ~ Buttermilk! (per Mommy's request of course)
Grandpa ~ Buttermilk pie! You don't want a pecan pie?
Violet ~ Yes please.
Grandpa ~ So, you want a buttermilk pie and a pecan pie?
Violet ~ Yes please. And pumpkin too!
