Birds of The Air

As you already know, we have a cute little bird feeder hanging in our tiny yard. We've had so many barn swallows visit the feeder that I have to add feed to it almost on a daily basis. Well, we have a new visitor to our little feeding station, a beautiful little guy that goes by the name "Cardinal"!!! He is such a beautiful species of bird with his red plumage and the spot of black on his face that makes him look mysterious.

Our cardinal has been visiting on a near regular basis for the past few days and we hope that he'll make our yard a favorite spot of his. He is so beautiful to look at and you get a greater appreciation of how God carefully thought out every creature on this world of ours. We are very blessed when we catch a glimpse of God's glory, especially when you are able to see it in the simplest things in life, such as a beautiful cardinal or the ordinariness (is that a word?) of a barn swallow or a turtle dove. Each bird has its values in either beauty, sound or function... yes, even bats serve their purpose by eating all the nasty mosquitoes (one of the few things I'm sure I'll ask God what He was thinking when He created mosquitoes).

Are you asking yourself why I'm going on about birds? I'm telling you all of this is because I'm trying to teach Violet to appreciate all of God's creatures. I hope that she'll have a greater sense of appreciating the birds and all that they give to us by taking care of them. Violet has learned to appreciate their beauty. When our newest friend, the handsome cardinal, visited our bird feeder, Violet saw him and said, "Wow, look at that!" You could hear the awe in her voice as she took in the bird's beauty for the first time. Seeing and hearing Violet's response, to seeing the cardinal for the first time, has made all of this worth the effort. Just the simple wonder of our beautiful little friend gives us the chance to teach Violet another lesson about God and how wonderful He is to us.
