July 4th

Happy 4th of July!!! Today was a wonderful leisurely day spent at home. Gregg managed to get a nap and caught up with some much needed rest. It was difficult to get motivated but we finally managed to get ourselves dressed and out the door around 6:00 pm. to go to the Katy Mills Mall. Friends told us that they have a nice fireworks show when the mall closes. They were correct.

We parked the car in a place where we thought we'd get a good view of the fireworks and then went in the mall. We strolled the mall for a little bit, ate dinner, and then headed back out to our car and got our blanket. Thankfully I thought ahead and packed a waterproof blanket and we were able to sit comfortably on a grassy island in the parking lot. While we waited for the show to begin, Violet got antsy. We couldn't fault her for that since all we've talked about for the past few days were fireworks. Violet and I even watched some firework shows on uTube earlier today. There were a few stray fireworks going on around the mall and so we kept a look out for those while waiting for the main show to begin.

When the show finally began Violet was amazed. We talked about our favorite fireworks and what we liked about them. Violet's favorites were the ones that had the colors of the rainbow in them and then end with sparkles, "Like glitter!" as Violet declared one time. Gregg and I enjoyed the fireworks but we enjoyed Violet's reaction to them the most. It was as if Gregg and I were watching our first firework show too.

Violet enjoyed tonight's show so much that she fell asleep talking about it on our way home. One moment she was chattering up a storm and the next was silence. Gregg was able to pull her out of her car seat and put her to bed without a peep from our little girl. I can only imagine that we'll be hearing about the fireworks for the next few days.

So glad you made it to the fireworks. I would loved to have been there to see the look on her face when they first went off. I'm surprised the noise of them going off did not scare her.

Love,
Mom

Hi Mom! Violet had a blast! We tried to prepare her before the fireworks show and told her that it could be loud. She was startled at first but got used to it pretty quickly.
