Happy Birthday Mom!

My Mom just celebrated her birthday. I've mentioned that we live several hours away from one another so I did what I could to help her celebrate. I picked out a sweet card and Violet colored a pretty picture of butterflies for her and we put that in the mail. Then, on her birthday, we called Mom and yelled "Happy Birthday" to her in unison when she answered the phone. Mom was pleasantly surprised and I could hear joy in her voice as she and Violet immediately started to talk. From the sound of things, Mom was really pampered on her special day. As well as she should have been. I just wish we were there to help celebrate the day with her.

I am very fortunate to have the relationship I have with my Mom. We've always been close but we have grown closer over the years. And even though she's my Mom, she's also my friend! A girl can't ask for anything better than that.

I had the best time ever with my Mom when she came down a few weeks ago. At times we laughed so hard I was brought to tears. That right there folks is an incredible feeling! Shared laughter and enjoying one another's company is a blessing in any relationship, but in a relationship with a parent it is a gift from God. And, because I know that not everyone has this, I realize just how precious this gift really is.

I am going to pay dearly for sharing this photo with you lovely folks but I just had to put this in here. Sorry Mom! But now you can see, at least in part, why we had so much fun when Mom came down for her visit. Also, just so you know, this photo was taken at Amy's Ice Cream shop, after the fiasco with Miss GPS and driving around in Houston rush hour traffic. Which really explains why Mom was acting silly in this photo. Hmmm, maybe she did have the Bourbon Chocolate Walnut ice cream after all!
