52 Weeks of Me ~ Shadow

This week's photo assignment at 52 Weeks of Me is Shadow. I'm going to be perfectly honest with you and say that this photo is a shot I've already posted. I've been sick this past week and have been absolutely worthless.

The camera has been sitting on a table and hasn't been picked up once. It's feeling very neglected right now.

I played around with my camera a few weeks ago, trying to get a decent picture for my facebook profile. This is one of the shots that I got.

Sorry for the photo repost but trust me, you wouldn't want to see what I look like this week. Just take my word for it. It's been bad around here. I'm happy to report that I am on the mend though. Onward and upwards my friends!

52 Weeks of Me ~ Zero In

This week's assignment is Zero In. Technically, I only zeroed in on something that is an extension of me. You rarely see me without my glasses, and I definitely can't see you without them, so it seemed fitting they get a little attention of their own.

Playing With Light

I have a few blogger friends who have taken on a year long project called 52 Weeks of Me. I wish I had the guts to take this challenge on. As a mom, I think this is a fantastic idea. Documenting your life through photos for your children is an amazing gift. They will have the gift of seeing you in the future as you are now. While I love the idea of this project I just don't think I can do it right now. I have so much to learn about my camera and photography in general. Maybe next year? In the meantime, I was spurred on to take some photos of myself. I played with the afternoon light that spilled into my home the other day. I'm pretty pleased with the result.

Worship The Sun

With summer coming to a close (and all the Southerners rejoice!) I wanted to share one of my favorite summer pics with you. I took this last summer while in Creede, Colorado. Poppies are one of my favorites and these seem to be enjoying some time worshipping the sun. I especially love poppies now as they are my daughter's birth flower. What's not to love about a poppy?

Caught My Eye

Our Classical Conversations Homeschool Group had a Pizza & Fire Truck day today. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. We had the most fantastic time! Below are just a few shots that caught my eye. Enjoy! (BTW, everything is straight from the camera. I'm just too tired to think about messing with these!)

Best Shot Monday

I can't believe I'm actually posting a photo of Ebony & P.B. since these two and I aren't on the best of terms. Still, I think it's a great photo of the two. I was waiting on some birds to arrive at my parent's bird feeders and when none showed up I turned the camera on the cats. Ebony reminds me of Toothless, a dreaded Night Fury, from How To Train Your Dragon.

BSM: From Our Latest Museum Trip

We recently went to the Museum of Natural Science in Sugar Land to tour the Chronicles of Narnia Exhibit. Unfortunately, photos weren't allowed in the Narnia exhibit since everything is from the actual movie sets. Let me just say, the exhibit was amazing! Another favorite at the museum was their Dig Pit, it certainly was a huge draw for Violet. She got to pretend to be an archaeologist for several hours and had a blast.

BSM: Working Hard

I need to pick up my camera more than I have been lately. Life has been hectic, at best, and the camera gets forgotten until I stumble upon it late at night. I miss so many moments that are worth capturing during the day.

I recently caught Violet while she was working hard on an art page that came with her curriculum. She was so focused that she didn't even notice the camera come out. I love capturing her on camera when she doesn't realize it, before she can pose or put on a silly face. My baby sure can get lost in whatever she's working on. It's as if she has shut the world out for a little bit as she focuses on whatever it is that has her attention. This day it happened to be the following art page...

Best Shot Monday: Great-Grandfatherly Love

Violet is with her Great Grandfather, or Papa as we lovingly call him, and her cousin C. It is amazing being around family and sharing in their love and enjoying their fellowship. And, if you're lucky, you happen upon a shared moment of love such as this.

The First Signs of Fall

The weather here has been amazing lately. We've been in the mid to high 80's this past week, which is what some Houstonians consider "chilly" weather. It's heavenly to me because you can go outside and not melt as soon as you close your door. Still, I'm looking forward to even cooler temps.

We rejoice when the fall season starts to peek it's head from the sweltering temps of summer. Just when you think you can't stand being stuck indoors on another hot day, fall slowly arrives. The first signs of fall, beyond the cooler temps, are starting to find their way in our area. We don't get a lot of changing leaves down here so we compensate in other ways. You'll see all kinds of pumpkins, gourds, wreaths, even bales of hay in this part of the woods (so to speak) as people try to make their homes feel more like the season. As a result, the pumpkins and pretty gourds are already making their way into the stores and homes.

On our way to my husband's office on Friday I noticed a garden nursery had a massive display of pumpkins. Of course, we had to stop there later that day. I was in "fall" heaven! There were little pumpkins and giant ones. I took a picture of Violet sitting next to this massive pumpkin that I swear has to weigh as much, if not more, than the kiddo does.

The sun was hitting right in Violet's face so it's not the best photo. I mostly wanted to show you the size of that pumpkin. It's huge! And, it had a huge price tag to show for it. Needless to say, we didn't bring that baby home. But, we did bring home some little pumpkins and gourds. One being the traditional little pumpkin (which I lovingly refer to as punkin') and the others with odd shapes and colors. The tiny white pumpkin is a BooBoo pumpkin. How sweet is that? (Sorry, I don't know the names of the gourds.)

I plan to go back to the same store when we get closer to Halloween to purchase our carving pumpkin. I think I've found a new favorite place. Their selection of pumpkins and gourds was amazing. But what really got my attention was all the Christmas decorations and ornaments that was inside the store! Oh my! Did I say that I think I've found my new favorite store? Because seriously, there is every kind of eye candy for the home and garden found within its walls.

Best Shot Monday

We had an amazingly wonderful weekend that was spent with several friends. On Saturday we all gathered at an incredible Mexican restaurant. After the food was inhaled we had everyone sing happy birthday to Violet. She got to wear a giant sombrero and enjoyed being in the spotlight for a little while.

Friday's Flowers

These were taken last spring in a field not far from where we live. I'm not sure what the name of this flower is but I've always known them as Buttercups.

These ring in the spring season around here and I just adore them.

Friday's Flowers

Texas Bluebonnets. Spring is a glorious time in the Texas hill country. When the bluebonnets are in bloom they command your attention. It's not unusual to see a row of cars parked on the side of the road during this time. People can't help but to stop and soak in the beauty.
