The First Signs of Fall

The weather here has been amazing lately. We've been in the mid to high 80's this past week, which is what some Houstonians consider "chilly" weather. It's heavenly to me because you can go outside and not melt as soon as you close your door. Still, I'm looking forward to even cooler temps.

We rejoice when the fall season starts to peek it's head from the sweltering temps of summer. Just when you think you can't stand being stuck indoors on another hot day, fall slowly arrives. The first signs of fall, beyond the cooler temps, are starting to find their way in our area. We don't get a lot of changing leaves down here so we compensate in other ways. You'll see all kinds of pumpkins, gourds, wreaths, even bales of hay in this part of the woods (so to speak) as people try to make their homes feel more like the season. As a result, the pumpkins and pretty gourds are already making their way into the stores and homes.

On our way to my husband's office on Friday I noticed a garden nursery had a massive display of pumpkins. Of course, we had to stop there later that day. I was in "fall" heaven! There were little pumpkins and giant ones. I took a picture of Violet sitting next to this massive pumpkin that I swear has to weigh as much, if not more, than the kiddo does.

The sun was hitting right in Violet's face so it's not the best photo. I mostly wanted to show you the size of that pumpkin. It's huge! And, it had a huge price tag to show for it. Needless to say, we didn't bring that baby home. But, we did bring home some little pumpkins and gourds. One being the traditional little pumpkin (which I lovingly refer to as punkin') and the others with odd shapes and colors. The tiny white pumpkin is a BooBoo pumpkin. How sweet is that? (Sorry, I don't know the names of the gourds.)

I plan to go back to the same store when we get closer to Halloween to purchase our carving pumpkin. I think I've found a new favorite place. Their selection of pumpkins and gourds was amazing. But what really got my attention was all the Christmas decorations and ornaments that was inside the store! Oh my! Did I say that I think I've found my new favorite store? Because seriously, there is every kind of eye candy for the home and garden found within its walls.

I am so ready for fall. It has been rainy and gloomy here. I am glad you are having some nice weather.
